Heres another idea i just thought of, have you thought at all about taking some classic led zep songs and making them your own? songs like dyer maker and the ocean come to mind as a couple you could put a little funk groove into. Moby Dick might be another one to look at too. Just some suggestions.

And now for something a little bit "out there"..I wonder if "Elephant Talk" by King Crimson would work?  Huh The crazy self-oscillating sound-effects rendered by Adrian Belew might be a little bit tricky on bass , but Tony Levin's Chapman Stick bassline seems workable  Afro

it could be made funky but it's not exactly the vibe I was going for. I am going to try and make Blue Oyster Cult's song "Godzilla" into a funk number, though...

Sadly the band hasn't materialized yet, but I currently own some of the funknastiest basses EVER!!

Hoping to get the band off the ground soon...
