<----metal head here too
yeah i'm a metaller too.. of sorts. i really like progressive metal and especially progressive/symphonic black metal, usually from Norway or north europe: Borknagar, Arcturus, Emperor and some Dimmu Borgir
i guess there's some dark nordic spirit in me..
2006 old post but hell...
Dude!! how was that bass player on Borknagar's - Empiricism. Tyr. Played with Emporor a couple times to I think.
We don't close out any old posts.
Good to see people doing research!!

that sounds a bit spooky.
I hope you've managed to get it sorted now.
I think this site is very good and I like the smileys
Stuff I do poorly is play the classical guitar and clarsach. I am better at the piano.

I could never afford to have a guitar teacher so the little I learnt was from tutor books and just picking out tunes on the strings. I enjoyed what I learnt. It is extremely difficult to put aside so much time every day for the discipline.
The piano won!

I love piano but never got any good on it.
it's a wonderful way to compose, to spread out chords and craft melodies, and so different from what I'm used to.

If there is any style I want to get better at its with slap funk bass. I do well, but Im not where I would like to be. Nothing that can't be fixed with practice. I want my slap to be just as killer as my finger-funk stuff!
I could use some definite help with country, as I love it too, but don't have a clue as to how to write a country piece by myself as its more of a guitar driven style of music.
I would like to learn Guitar or Paino next myself. Not to try and master them, because if there is any instrument out there that I would want to try to master it is the bass!, but I would like to at least be proficient at guitar and paino for song writting and studio work purposes when I go to write my own tunes. Plus it wouldn't be a bad thing to know!

I'm not pursuing it actively, but I'm slowly getting into chord melody playing.
years ago I stumbled across the Joe Pass album Unforgettable and... YIKES!!
really opened my ears up to what someone can do in a solo setting!

I must admit I've no idea what a clarsach is but I'm going straight to google it as soon as I post this. I've been meaning to search it out since your earlier post, Sherry!

i'm primarily a rock bassist.. that's how it started out in 1982.. LOL.. i'm feeling old.. but, when i decided to actually do something about it all, i went to the local JC and was in stage band and jazz combo.. being in that opened a huge library of music to me.. going from beating out Misfits and DRI to having to actually learn Miles Davis..
now, i'll play anything.. so long as i'm playing.. i'll play with anyone, at any time..
and i guess that goes into my influences too.. there's very, very little music i don't listen to.. well, there is some but i will listen to it and try to understand it for the sake of learning.. and much of the time, i do find things about it that i end up liking and continue to listen to it..
right now, i'm on a heavy Dave Brubeck thing.. i'm just soaking it in.. early 60's jazz, in general..
there's so much to learn and absorb.. of course, i look funny playing jazz on my Jackson Kip Winger bass.. LOL.. actually, it's just me that looks funny..
